“Highly recommended”
What a lovely spot to spend a holiday ! We were only there for a week, which definitely wasn’t long enough. The weather got better and better through the week, so we were very grateful for the gorgeous pool – a personal highlight was swimming early in the morning before anyone else was up, just to the sound of birdsong, when the pool was steaming as it was warmer than the morning air ! We would recommend the croissants and pain au chocolat from the Boulangerie in Montboyer – an easy cycle ride on the bike to collect those in the morning. Also a visit to the amazing restaurant at the Hotel du Perigord in Aubeterre – the most delicious steak ! Le Petit Pommerai is full of charm and character, but is also really well equipped. It was immaculately clean and everything is obviously very well looked after. Very comfortable beds, with lovely crisp cool sheets – air conditioning and mosquito nets – a fantastic barbeque up by the pool – even a hammock away from the house on the edge of the orchard, and plenty of cooking equipment. We’ve stayed in a lot of French houses, and even with fussy teenage children this house worked really well. The huge TV with all the English channels also worked for a sport mad husband during Wimbledon ! The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into this house – we would definitely recommend it, and will be returning there.
